Library

The Bray Park State School library aims to provide a well-resourced and inviting environment which fosters a love of reading and the development of student information literacy skills.

The library is fully computerised and students receive a borrowing number which is retained for their entire schooling at Bray Park.

The library is open from 8.30 am every morning. We close at 3.00 pm on Wednesday and Friday, but are open until at least 3.30 pm other days. We are also open most lunch breaks.

Parents are most welcome to come and help their child choose a book.  Books may be changed daily either before school, after school or during breaks. Each class also receives a weekly borrowing time – check with your class teacher for this time.

All students require a book bag when borrowing books, as this helps them care for our resources thereby minimising our need to replace books due to damage or loss.

Books are on loan for a two week period, with the following limits for each year level:

  • Prep to Year 2     1 item

  • Years 3 to 6         2 items

Overdue notices are sent to classrooms on a weekly basis. Fine notices for long overdue resources are issued each month. Lost or damaged books will incur a nominal fee.

Feel free to come down and speak with us about any of your needs or concerns.  We also regularly need volunteers for book covering, so if you are available, let us know.

Book club

Scholastic Book Club brochures are distributed approximately twice per term. As well as providing reasonably priced and good quality books for students, parents and teachers, the reading rewards system allows us to purchase many additional resources for the library.

Orders should be placed in a named, sealed envelope and returned to the office before the due date. Books are then packaged and distributed on arrival, which is usually about two weeks after the due date.

Please send any concerns or ordering issues in writing to library staff.  We can usually sort out any problems.

Book fairs

This twice yearly event offers families an opportunity to purchase quality books and novelty stationery at very reasonable prices. Families are under no obligation to purchase, but should they wish to do so, the school receives a commission of the sales total which then enables purchases of further resources.

Birthday books

The library runs a birthday book club though out the year.  If you wish to participate, we ask that you purchase an age appropriate book from your local book store and send it to school with your child on his or her birthday.  Class teachers read the book to the class and it is then forwarded on to the library where staff attach a special book plate and sticker commemorating your child's birthday.  It is then processed for the shelves in the usual way.  This is a fun way to encourage the enjoyment of reading in your own child and pass on favourite stories to their friends.
