Prep A 'Koffee and Cake'

25/08/2015
Working in Koffee and Cake
During investigations time,  some of the students have been making biscuits out of play dough.  They wanted to make real ones, so our compromise was to make salt dough biscuits, cook them and have them for sale. This baking then lead to a “Koffee and Cake” shop being constructed. Students quickly learnt that to run a successful coffee shop  you needed money, note pads for taking orders and menus to make a selection from. They collected data to find what would sell the best, chocolate or strawberry milk. In our class strawberry was the favourite by just a few votes, so we made both. Oral language, negotiation, writing and mathematics are skills that you must have in a very busy shop.
Prep A have also been learning about the weather in science, so the students decided to set up a weather station.  They wrote the signs, symbols required and made a map with Brisbane marked on it. They then practiced their weather forecasts with peers watching.  Noah suggested that  we could record it on the IPad, so he became our camera man and Joshua our presenter. Hayley found appropriate clothing for our baby to wear on a warm sunny day with light breezes.
