News from 1A and 1B

17/02/2014

It has been a great start to the year for the children in 1A/B!  We've been settling in and learning what its like to be big Year 1 students - there are lots of changes from Prep!

We started the year by negotiating our class rules.  Our class rules fit with our school mascot SARARA - being Safe And Responsible And Respectful Always.

The rules for 1A/B are:

Have safe hands and safe feet.

Move around the room safely.

Look after your belongings.

Work hard and always do your best.

Be kind and understanding.

Be a good listener.

In English we are learning all about sentences.  We are beginning to write simple sentences that contain a who and a what.  We are starting to become excellent writers!

In Maths we are focussing on learning all about numbers.  We are investigating 'teen' numbers and what is special about these numbers.  We love using hands-on materials to help with our learning!

In History we are focussing on our personal history and looking at milestones and important personal events.  We have been investigating objects from the past and comparing them to items from today - things have certainly changed!  We have also been sequencing the stages of the human lifecycle.  Soon the children will talk to the class about a special object from their past and tell us why it is special to them.

We have lots more to learn in year 1 - it is certainly going to be a busy year!
