2012 Queensland Reconcilliation Awards Finalists

Representatives from the Bunyabilla Indigenous Advisory Committee and Bray Park State School receive their Finalist Award.
Last term, the Bunyabilla  Indigenous Advisory Committee and Bray Park State School - Powerful Partnerships Program forwarded a submission for the 2012 Queensland Reconciliation Awards.
Our submission was shortlisted for the awards. The following is an excerpt from the submission outlining the partnerships that have been formed across our community:
“The Bray Park State School leadership team and the Bunyabilla Indigenous Advisory Committee have been parallel partners since 2009.  This partnership was formed when reviews identified that several Indigenous students were ‘at risk’ of not engaging and succeeding, including those at risk of not progressing through the phases of learning.  The school realised that it needed to break down barriers and build trustful, respectful relationships within an inclusive and participatory environment that values Indigenous families, culture and individual and community aspirations.
The Indigenous Advisory Committee conducts an important role in reviewing curriculum offerings from an Indigenous perspective and providing advice and support on a range of community issues.”
