Dear Families,

New Parent Induction Sessions:   If families missed the morning or evening information sessions, please feel free to drop in and get an information kit from our school. Alternately, you may wish to make an appointment so you can get more specific information. Our school staff will be only too happy to help.

Remaining Focused: We are currently in Week 5 of a 10 week term. Term 4 is always a busy time of the year with a focus on finalising curriculum units, assessment tasks and report writing. On the strategic forefront, much is happening with plans being made for 2010 staffing, budgeting and facilities development. In Week 7, the National Schools Pride program will commence with some classes getting smartboards, accordion doors etc.   At this point of the year, it is timely for all students to remain focused on making good behavioural choices , and on appropriate and positive interactions with other students and teaching staff. I have reminded children recently that their primary purpose whilst as school is to put in the best possible effort into their learning to achieve the best outcome that they can.

Lyn McKay Playground: The upgraded Lyn McKay playground is a work in progress. Children this week have appreciated the new sandpit, but there are many more stages of the playground yet to be completed. Funds prohibit further development of the playground this year, but if any family is willing to make a contribution towards advancing this, please do so.

Staff Car Parks: All families are reminded that the staff car parking areas are for staff, service delivery vehicles, emergency services vehicles and vehicles associated with the Special Education Unit.  Put simply, the more vehicles that are in the car park increase the risk and likelihood of an injury, perhaps fatality occurring to students.    In the interests of safety for students entering and exiting our school grounds, please do not park in the school grounds.

This Friday morning, families are encouraged to support Chappy Pancake morning, through the purchase of pancakes and by volunteering a half hour to assist Chappy Matt with the cooking and serving.
Matt does a great job supporting a number of school
families, so your support would be appreciated.

Peter Orphanides
Acting Principal.

Message from Bas:   Be respectful of the privacy of others; Be considerate of other users re: soap, paper etc

Chappy Chat:   This FRIDAY 6th is the final IGA Brendale Chappy Pancake Breakfast in the undercover area from 8:30. Just $2 gets you 2 pancakes, syrup and a popper. Bargain!!

Chappy Award winners last week were Makya Boardman and Tom Willmott.
Congratulations.

Mr G - School Chaplain

Music: Bray Idol auditions are nearing completion and once again the talent coming out of the woodwork has been fantastic. We would really like to acknowledge all of the children who have put themselves out there and had a go. This takes courage. It really is about doing your best and having a go.

Tuesday November 17 2009 is the date set aside for the Bray Park annual Music and Variety Concert. On this night we will showcase our instrumental students, choirs and other students who have been heavily involved in the music program. A permission letter will be handed to all children involved this Friday to take home and be signed. All details will be on the letter.

An important message from Mr Lanham this week regards band practice on Thursday. Instead of the 2nd break practice session, Mr Lanham has requested that students arrive at school at 8.45am for rehearsal. Mr Lanham needs to leave the school early. With less than two weeks to go before the end of the year concert please be on time ready to go.

Thanks
Dean Le Vesconte

Take the low carbon diet

Everyone has a part to play in addressing climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The Queensland Government’s Toward Q2: Tomorrow’s Queensland has set a target to reduce the State’s household carbon footprint by a third by 2020.

One way that Queenslanders can reduce their individual carbon footprint is by participating in the Low Carbon Diet program.

The program provides information and resources to encourage Queenslanders to work together to reduce their carbon emissions and contribute to the global climate change solution.

The 30-day program helps people save money, energy and our environment by challenging households to reduce their carbon emissions by 2000 kilos a year.

Some simple actions that households can take include:

·       only using the dishwasher when it’s full;
·       washing your clothes in a cold water wash;
·       hang washing on the line rather than using a dryer;
·       turning off the lights;
·       changing to energy saving light globes (CFLs); and
·       encouraging others to live ClimateSmart.

If your household is serious about wanting to address the impacts of climate change
in Queensland, now is the time to take action – register your interest for the Low Carbon Diet by visiting the ClimateSmart website at www.climatesmart.qld.gov.au
